You will need to know what your State's Local Laws, rules and guidelines are. You will need to know your buidling codes and regulations, you will need insurances on both your store as well as your employees. You will need to know what type of permits and licsense you willl need, you will have to check with your local Health Dept for rules and regulations.

Consult with advertising companies in your area and let them know what you are doing and ask them for tips with your project.

Remember when doin well in school you have to go above and beyond the minimal requirements as this with help you in your business later in your life.

Hair salon business plans - opening a day spa

If you're considering opening a hair salon, day spa or destination spa, business plans may seem merely optional. When you feel you're drowning in the details of spa menu, floor plan and beauty treatments, or the competing merits of different shampoos lines versus private label, then a spa business plan doesn't sound too urgent. But all the experts agree that it should come at the very start of opening a salon or day spa. It doesn't matter what kind of you're setting up: a day spa business plan is just as necessary as your own premises, and so is a franchise business plan. Of course, you'll need to cover the same kind of ground in all of them. But your new day spa business plan will be just as individual and have as much style as you do!

When you're setting up your new kids hair salon or destination spa for adults, business plan writing comes as part of the territory. If you want to raise capital, then no investor is going to consider you without one. An expertly produced business plan for a Hair salon can demonstrate you've done your research, and that there's likely to be a good profit in your venture. But more than that: a business plan for beauty salons can be a useful tool for you to work with. A spa business plan can clarify your thinking and alert you to challenges ahead: challenges that need to be dealt with right now. Of course, if you're in the beauty business, plans and documents are not what you had in mind. So maybe you need a little help from someone with specialist knowledge of how to write a winning business plan that gives you that extra edge. We have a wealth of experience with startups in search of capital: startups just like you, in fact!

Charge ';rent'; on your chairs for your employees weekly and then whatever's left over is their profit. Kinda like commission I guess. The better the clientele the better your employees will get paid.
If this is for school shouldn't YOU be going and doing research, not asking for answers? In my opinion that's cheating. Do your own research.
Are you in Beauty School?

If so you really need to get a job and get alittle experiance under your belt first. Please don't take this as an insult, but when you first get out of beauty school you really don't know enough to rush out and open a salon, it will go under very quickly!!! I know you prbably feel you know enough, but honestly beauty school only teaches the basics and you learn the most when you get out and into a shop.

Salons are very competitive, there is a hair salon on every street corner, it is very hard to do well on your own, especially right out of school. You really need to build a clientelle, being right out of school you are not going to have that.

The best thing is to build your knowledge before going out and opening a salon. It is a very rough business, especially when you have salons doing $3.99-$10.00 cuts.

I don't know where you live, but in most states you have to work in a salon for 6-12 mos. before you can open your own salon.

Good Luck,

Stylist of 9 yrs.
